> ANALYST NOTE: They’re not asking for regulation. They’re asking for a permit to build the apocalypse while looking responsible.
Sam Altman tours the globe demanding AI regulation in March 2023. By November, OpenAI ships GPT-4 Turbo with expanded capabilities. No pause. No waiting for those regulations. The “concerned” billionaire couldn’t even wait nine months before iterating toward the exact catastrophic outcomes he testified about. Actions. Not. Words.
Anthropic’s entire brand is “Constitutional AI” and safety-first development. Their pitch deck? They’re literally fundraising to build AGI faster than OpenAI. The “safe” alternative is just the competition wearing a safety vest. Same destination, different marketing team.
Dario Amodei writes 15,000-word essays about AI risk. His company just raised $7 billion from Amazon and Google. You don’t raise war-chest funding for a moonshot if you actually believe there’s a 10% chance it kills everyone. You either don’t believe your own warnings, or you’re a sociopath. Pick one.
The entire regulatory ask is a Trojan horse. They want frameworks that require billion-dollar compliance infrastructure — a moat their startups can’t cross. “Regulate us” means “lock in our monopoly.” Safety theater as corporate strategy.
This isn’t precaution. It’s premeditation. They’re manufacturing consent for controlled detonation — controlled by them, consented by you.
Every “we need guardrails” speech is cover for “don’t stop us now.” If they actually believed their own catastrophic risk assessments, they’d shut down the labs tomorrow. They haven’t. They won’t. Because the apocalypse permits are already signed — in venture capital term sheets, cloud computing contracts, and API integrations shipping to production right now.
Watch what they build, not what they say.
